I like the fewer birds but I liked the positioning of the flock better on the previous version. I struggle with this all the time - trying to determine what is the "best" option in my artistic decisions. Eventually, I think we have to go with what feels right to us, regardless of what others might say.

Well, both are interesting. Perhaps the previous is more balanced, but...this is no reason for it like better. Pleasing more or less is, in any case, subjective.
