Red Coneflower

Posted by
Anita (West Nottingham, Pennsylvania, United States) on 4 September 2012 in Plant & Nature.

I like the strong contrast between the red and the turquoise/green. When I went to the VanGogh exhibit some months ago, I noticed that he used turquoise as a background for some of his flower paintings.

Taken at Longwood Gardens. Processed in Elements 10, basic adjustments, plus: High Pass for flower, Color Efex Pro: Darken/Lighten Center, Topaz Adjust: Exposure Correction. Used textures: "Blue Door" by Anita (me), "Blutopia" by Shadowhouse Creations , "Turquoise Bokeh" by pareeerica, "Robin's Egg" by French Kiss, and
"I Do" by Sterling Silverr . I think I just kept adding textures until I got the background I wanted.

Wow, Anita. This is fabulous. Your texture work, as always, is truly phenomenal. I had to smile - my approach is similar - just keep adding till it works :) The contrast between the fuschia/orange and the teal background - well, if it worked for Van Gogh, it certainly works here. We can always learn something from the masters - and I am inspired by your application of that lesson.

There is a lot to like on this image, Anita. Colours, composition, the single "inner" blossom, light, texture... Very nice and very unusual colour combination.
