Love the comp and a great image for that 50mm! Did you get the G or the D? I think I ended up with the D and now wondering if I got the right one.

8 Dec 2011 2:46pm

@Barbara Kile: Thanks, Barbara. I bought the D, and use it with a Nikon D300.

Your comment makes me smile. It's a relief because it speaks so powerfully to you. Again, you are a master of backgrounds. It's what "makes" this picture for me. I particularly admire how you are able to make the background complement the subject so that it becomes part of the overall effect, rather than just something slightly blurry and not really to be part of the photo. And I must say it's (as always) an admirable composition.

9 Dec 2011 6:10am

@GJC: I'm delighted that my comment made you smile. :-) You are completely correct about the reason. If we photograph what we love, what speaks to our hearts, no matter the subject, the images will have more feeling. Or, at least we will enjoy the process more, which is the point of the whole project. THANK YOU for your kind words. I've come to really enjoy the experimentation involved in post processing, much to my surprise.

I'm sure I feel the veins of a leaf over this image - but it might be that your photography makes me see stuff like that even when it is not here ! Whatever, all very 'in harmony'.

9 Dec 2011 7:48am

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes! You saw it! I used a slightly blurred autumn leaf as a texture. I liked how the lines crossed the blurred lines in my image. What a great eye you have--must be one of the factors in making you a great photographer. :-)

Such an exquisitely beautiful detail. Looks almost as if it's a mirror image - the two sides of the same pine cone. Great eye!
