Red Dahlias

Posted by
Anita (West Nottingham, Pennsylvania, United States) on 15 October 2011 in Plant & Nature.

I appreciate all the wonderful comments I've received for the Meetinghouse series. :-)

I like the look of these small red Dahlias photographed with a 50mm lens and wide open aperture. The 50mm allows me to hand-hold the camera, allowing greater freedom of composition and exploration. In post processing I did some dodging and burning, and added a yellow color fill, blended at "soft light."

Oh my, Anita. Beautiful. That is a near perfect dahlia in structure and symmetry. Love the bokeh too. I love shooting with the 50, too, and I love the challenge of only going out with one lens and having to "make do." I'd be curious to see this with a bit less yellow in the reds, though I surely love those yellow greens.
