Now that the true color is gone, there is less to pull our eyes to the center and I feel this version might need a stronger sense of vignette to keep us focused on the flowers.

I agree with Ronnie's vignette idea.
Still think this is a stronger more effective image in color, but the old fashioned flavor does come through.
