Whorls Within Whorls

Posted by
Anita (West Nottingham, Pennsylvania, United States) on 12 June 2010 in Plant & Nature.

Nodding Thistle. I took this picture in our meadow this week before my husband mowed them down. They are beautiful, but they are invasive aliens. (He missed a few, so I hope to take some more photos.)

A beautiful thistle...a simply lovely interpretation, Anita. Glad you have a few more. I'll be watching.... :-)

So powerfully explosive . . and, yes, armed with a microscope, those whorls go on and on beyond our reach.

This one reminds me of fireworks...very softly subtly colored. Exquisite!

Just gorgeous, Anita. Perfect depth of field, and the different tones of green draw your eye past the flower-almost like looking in water.

They are beautiful and harsh to bare feet when they grow low in the grass. Very pretty shot though.

You have captured fall with the texture and color of the leaves. I've just come in for a quick break after digging up my dahlia tubers, and your photos are a treat. We have similar plants, but you have such an eye for composition and light.
