stunning color and detail......

Gorgeous, right down to the "fur" on the stem and leaves!!!

The rich color and fine details make this an extra fine flower shot. I like it this time of year too...all is dull and gray here. Thanks for sharing such a lovely blossom.

Great colours (the blossom is almost shining), pretty well composed and very nice contrasting against the black background. I really like the light which falls on the blossom and also backlits the stem and makes the edges glowing. I wonder if you really shot it against black background or was it cut out later on? I'm also missing more details in petals and stem and I wonder what happend to all of them. Did you do some postprocessing here that could minimize amount of details? Or maybe it's because of the very long exposure time... I don't know. Did you take this photo with shorter shutter speed to compare the amount of details?

@Tomas Turecek: Tomas: You are right. I moved the leaf up and shortened the stem. I'm glad you pointed out that it lacks detail, as I hadn't noticed that.
Very sharp, and very vivid against the black background. It's a lovely image.

Your photos bring always summer in my mind!

Gorgeous lighting, Anita and perfect DOF. I do wish the leaf was all in the frame but that's just me.
29 Nov 2009 5:48pm
OK so the orange head of the flower hits you straight away, but I'm attracted by the fine details in that green stem.
29 Nov 2009 6:51pm
A beautiful splash of color on a gray autumn day!
29 Nov 2009 10:27pm
The detail is incredible. All the fine plant hairs.
30 Nov 2009 2:23am
gorgeous details, I saw a couple of Calendula at my mother-in-laws house yesterday and they were about to bloom..... ?? in late November in Sweden. There is something strange going on!?
30 Nov 2009 11:05am
Extraordinary color and detail. Love how the black background makes the flower pop..but more - I love how all the hairs around the stem look as if they glow!!!
30 Nov 2009 12:43pm
Oh this is just stunning! Beautiful color and detail!

Wonderful shot! Looks great against the black. The colors and petals are really crisp.

Just incredible. The presentation of the stem is almost as important as the flower itself. Magnificent.
