Fluff

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, Pennsylvania, United States) on 13 November 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I took this photo a few days ago in a meadow behind my house. This is the fluff holding the seeds on an unidentified plant. i used a wide open aperture to blur most of the image.

5 stars. Unique and lovely. It almost seems a living thing...fur-like.
Wonderful soft colors and I love the off-center composition.

Now 5 stars form 5 possible goes also from me, Anita. This is absolutely amazing and just for my taste. I LOVE floral images taken with aperture wide open and this is wonderful example of this technique. The colour tones together with very soft light and great subject makes really impressive image. Maybe (only maybe!) the flower centre could be whole in focus but I'm really not sure how it would affect the whole image and the atmosphere.

Anita I have to hand it to you for your ability to make everything beautiful! (hmmm... maybe I should commission a portrait)

13 Nov 2009 2:31pm

@Earnest: Thank you for your wonderful compliment. However, all I do is find the beauty that is already out there. I'm sure that would include you, but, unfortunately, I'm too shy to photograph people. :-)

About your comment to Earnest, you find the beauty in nature but you manage to make it even more beautiful in your compositions! This photograph a perfect example. Bravo!

Stunningly beautiful image, Anita. Your almost singular focus on flowers has stood you well. I recently summarized my approach to my photography in an essay I wrote (haven't done a final edit and put it on my blog yet) where I said that I want the consumer to look at my work and say "How did he do that?" and not "I can do that." I believe you have achieved that with your work, Anita. I know I said it before but I thought you did great work a year or two ago when we first crossed paths on BPN. And I think you are now eons beyond where you were then!

You've created a beautiful image with your careful use of f stop and a solid exposure that reveals the soft nature of this plant. A fine picture.

An out in the wild image with your style and grace always portrayed in your images. Very nice. The fluff looks like milkweed seeds.
