Marigolds

I took this picture at a motel we stayed at last weekend on a quick trip to attend a memorial service. The time was late afternoon. The blurred flowers are both in front and behind the flower in focus. In PP I used soft focus which I learned from Barbara Kile (read her response to my comment), Topaz Detail, as well as my basic editing. I added a dark orange vignette.

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Yummy hot autumn colors. Especially love the bokeh in the background...maybe that is part of the soft-focus you were talking about. I will visit the link you mentioned.

@Dulcie: I liked the colors also. The soft focus just smoothed out the blurred BG a little bit. Just another easy technique to play around with. I love learning new techniques and sharing them.

I really like it as it is. Composition is perfect, DOF and sharpness, too, colours are splendid!
This should be French Marigold (Tagetes patula) which is in my country called "Africanas" (even though their homeland is not Africa) or "stinkies" because of their not very pleasant smell. To be honest I never thought that these flowers would be good subject for floral photo - what an errorneous thought!
