ZinniaPosted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 19 July 2009 in Plant & Nature. Taken yesterday at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, USA, on an overcast afternoon. Natural light, tripod. I tried cropping away the purplish spot above the flower, but the results were unsatisfactory. I think it pulls the eye away from the flower. *****THANK YOU FOR VISITING ANITA'S PHOTOBLOG!***** I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography. If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know! A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Dulcie from Danville, United StatesActually, I find the touch of pink in the background perfectly repetitive of the pink of the zinnia...not at all distracting. But then the Zinnia is spectacular in all it's perfection of stamens and pistils. Marvelous! 19 Jul 2009 5:29am @Dulcie: Thank you for your comments. It is good to get feedback. Betty from New Jersey, United StatesI don't find the touch of pink in the background distracting at all. I didn't notice it until I read you comment. Beautiful composition, Anita. 19 Jul 2009 10:25am @Betty: Thanks, Betty. I appreciate the feedback. @Dawn: Thanks for visiting and commenting. Glad you like it. Chris from South Jersey, United StatesI see your concern about the purple spot, but I don't think it is dark enough or sharp enough to be that distracting - a beautiful image - great composition and bokeh..... 19 Jul 2009 11:39am Marcie from Newton, United StatesLove the pinks against the green. Exquisite color and detail. 19 Jul 2009 2:18pm Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesBeautiful composition and color......splendid!! 19 Jul 2009 5:15pm Lhoy Mojica from PhilippinesIts wonderful and maybe its much more exciting if you caught a honey bee in that flower. thanks and God bless 20 Jul 2009 4:29am Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomPerfect composition . . she looks like a sweet little oasis waiting for a visit ! 20 Jul 2009 9:40am Margaret Benefiel from United StatesBeautiful! I like the pink in the background. Thanks, Anita! 20 Jul 2009 3:46pm Ed Vatza from Lehigh Valley, PA, United StatesI think the image looks fine as is Anita. Would it be stronger without the purple spot. Possibly. But no big deal. 21 Jul 2009 10:21am manel from Girona, SpainLlevo dias con falta de tiempo. Acabo de ver tus últimas fotos. Se podría hacer un ramo maravilloso. 21 Jul 2009 8:46pm Kerri from Blacksburg, United StatesThere is a sort of progression to it....like there are two other flowers behind this one just not in focus. I like it this way! 22 Jul 2009 12:31pm Tomas Turecek from Czech RepublicAnother great image. I haven't noticed the darker purple spot until I read your comment. Now it draws my attention from the main flower but only to lead it to other two flowers farther so it's not distracting, it even somehow helps! If I focus only on the main flower then it's not distracting at all and I can enjoy the beautiful details of the zinnia. 23 Jul 2009 11:51am |
