Cherokee Rose 1 Version 2

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 22 April 2009 in Plant & Nature.

This is a brighter image than the one originally posted. I changed it at 8am, eastern time, after Paul Michko's comment.

I was playing around shooting through the leaves of this Rose. The leaves were very close to the camera lens. I'm not completely happy with the results, but, find it interesting and worth sharing.

Taken at Longwood Gardens Conservatory on a rainy day last week. Macro lens, tripod, natural light.

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

I don't know, Anita. It seems we keep working the same techniques at the same time. I was trying something similar with violets just last Friday. It is a nice effect when you get it but it can be tough to get. I think this looks really good. I particularly like the colors. The shaded of pink and green work together perfectly.

I like the translucent effect on the petals. Has a very delicate airy feel. Very pretty, however I don't get a knockout impact from it. More of a pleasing tranquil feel. I'm searching for the right words. Possibly a bit more contrast on the yellow center would give it a dynamic punch. Still a pleasing image.

Works foe me! I don't think every shot should deliver a "knockout" punch. I enjoy calm & restful photos too.

Anita, as I've said before, your work is extraordinary (all your recent closeups) and this one in particular is a beautiful presentation. I need to take a walk to see if our wild roses are blooming.
