Himalayan Blue Poppy

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, Pennsylvania, United States) on 19 March 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

This unusual flower is forced at Longwood and planted in the Conservatory in March. Photographers were clustering around them like bees to flowers.

For the same image turned 180 degrees and slightly cropped, go to flickr

Three of my photos are being shown at the Oxford Arts Alliance Gallery and two at Eagle Gallery.

and she said she had a hard time getting a good shot - this is great Anita - wonderful ability to get up underneath and preserve and make use of the natural light!!

@Betsy Barron: Thanks Betsy. I used a reflector.

So I went to the Flickr photo and went back and forth between the two to see which one I like better. They are both lovely with wonderful color and compostion as well as perfect focus. What I found was that I feel more positive and at peace with the flower on flickr - just works better for me. I think my eye is going in a more natural direction.

19 Mar 2009 1:59pm

@PShorten: Pat: Thanks for looking at both images. The one here is how the flower looks at Longwood, but the version on flickr is how we are more used to seeing flowers--looking up. I don't know which I prefer, hence, I value your input.
