Onion

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 9 March 2009 in Food & Cuisine.

This is the fifth and next-to-last of the photo challenges my photo-buddy Mary Brooks-Brown and I set for ourselves this winter. The topic is vegetables. As tomorrow is grocery day, all we had in the house were onions, potatoes and carrots. I liked the curved lines of the cut onion. Used my macro lens, tripod and window light with foam reflector.

Our prior challenges were:
Mug,
Crayons, Heart, and Book.

I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography.

If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know!

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

I like the simplicity in this. In simplicity there is great power, as we see here.

Cool macro shot, a -1.0 EV might have got the background underexposed while keeping all the details in the Onion. Beautiful

Your photograph seems to have captured the details in the white onion; something I find very challenging. Love the graceful little root at the bottom of the image. Nature's little apostrophe!
