Lily Bud

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 2 January 2009 in Plant & Nature.

Taken at Longwood Gardens Conservatory, Pennsylvania, USA last weekend. My goal was to get flower images with colorful backgrounds.
I cloned out the lower leaves in a copy of this image and can't decide which I prefer. You can see the other image on my flickr accouont at here. What do you think?

*****THANK YOU FOR VISITING ANITA'S PHOTOBLOG!*****

I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography.

If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know!

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

@Lídia: Thank you!

May be the answer is in the position of the cloned leaves. A little bit lower wouldn't be better?

@António Pires: Thank you. I couldn't avoid the location of these leaves and also get the clean background. I'm still torn between the two images.

It's a beautiful picture but if I have to choose I think I like the one on flickr a bit more. Well captured!

Typically I prefer to leave images as close to natural as possible; however, I must admit I like the image on Flickr with the extra leaves cloned out. Beautiful color in the blurred background which provides the perfect contrast for the beautiful flower.

I like this one better. The extra leaves add depth and frame the bud. That being said, either way, it's a beautiful image!

@Jen: Interesting that some of us like it with the extra leaves, and some without. I agree with your assessment, I think that is why I have a mild preference for this one. Thanks for sharing your views.
