Dahlia

I love the curls in the center of this Dahlia. This is one growing in my garden.

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Beautiufl Anita I have never seen a dahlia with curly petals before

25 Sep 2008 1:13am

@jamesy: I don't think they are supposed to curl. At a Dahlia Society show I went to on Sunday, there were no curling petals like these. But I have seen them curl on this particular type of Dahlia, not only in my garden.

Trying to be specific: Great choice to center the flower in lower right and take it from this angle. It's easy to overlook the contribution of the background shading. I had to really stare to realize that the back-most petals are starting the blur, the sharpness of the curls "convinces" the viewer that the the entire flower is sharp. Lucious!
