Cosmos Against OrangePosted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 6 September 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. I continue to experiment with indoor flower portraits with different colored backgrounds. *****THANK YOU FOR VISITING ANITA'S PHOTOBLOG!***** I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography. If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know! A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

António Pires from Lisbon, PortugalThe portrait of the flower is great. The background seems too strong, except for the green peduncle that looks very elegant against that yellow, with the green changing from light into dark green. It's interesting to compare with the small yellow core of the flower against the magenta petals which looks marvelous. 6 Sep 2008 9:23am @António Pires: I always appreciate your comments. The background is very strong. I don't know if I think it is too strong or not; I need to live with it for a while. I'm glad to know that for you, it is too much. As the creator of the image, I lose perspective. Thanks! Betty from New Jersey, United StatesI really like the curve of the stem! I think that for this subject the background works for the image you are trying to present. The flower really pops! I like it. 6 Sep 2008 10:52am @Betty: Thanks, Betty. I'm having such a good time trying out new things. GJC from Kyoto, JapanThe shape of that stem is really excellent and you've done a good job emphasizing it. I agree that at first impression that background seems a little overwhelming, but maybe, as you say, we need to live with it for a while. I am always glad to see the "experiments"! 6 Sep 2008 11:13am @GJC: Thanks for your thoughts. The jury is still out on the background. :-) Earnest from Oklahoma, United StatesBeautiful, Anita... every time I pass a cosmos in my flower garden I want to take a photo and so I have lots of unused ones of -- you guessed it -- cosmos. 6 Sep 2008 11:59am @Earnest: Well, go ahead and post them! I love Cosms. Thanks so much. Loretta from San Mateo, United StatesGreat photo, I think the contrast of the background makes the color of the flower pop. If the background was muted it would not be the same it would be just a nice flower. 6 Sep 2008 2:10pm @Loretta: Thank you so much. I'm glad you like the eye-popping colors. Sue from United StatesTo my eyes, the colors are so fresh, vibrant, and alive! I really like the color combination. And, as the others have said....the curve of the stem; elegant. I admire your work. I could learn a great deal from you! 6 Sep 2008 3:53pm don from spokane, United StatesThis combination seems very strong to me. Quite effective. 6 Sep 2008 7:28pm @don: Thank you. Ana Lúcia from Leiria, PortugalIt’s so beautiful! I love the combination of colors. 6 Sep 2008 8:32pm @Ana Lúcia: I'm glad you like them. thank you for commenting. @Namaki: I'm glad you like it. Thank you for commenting! Paul Michko from Exton, PA, United StatesThis is striking, Anita. Very vibrant and alive. 9 Sep 2008 10:11am @jamesy: I'm glad you like it! Thanks for visiting. @MaryP: Thanks, Mary. I want to experiment more with this type of image. |
