Spotted Knapweed Macro (Centaurea maculosa)

Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 31 August 2008 in Plant & Nature.

These lovely non-native flowers are currently blooming in our meadow.
I used my new piece of equipment to hold the flower still in the breeze: a Wimberley plamp. This is a flexible plastic line with a clamp at each end--one attaches to the tripod or another stable object, and the other attaches to the stem of the flower.

I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography.

If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know!

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Fantastic macro, the colors and details are wonderful. They are wild flowers....? if they were in a bouquet you could ask a handsome price for them.

31 Aug 2008 1:43pm

@Observing: They grow in the wild, yes. The related garden and bouquet flower is Bachelor-button. I'm glad you like it.
