Beautyberry Flowers (Callicarpa)Posted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 12 August 2008 in Plant & Nature. Taken outdoors in my garden, tripod, macro lens. *****THANK YOU FOR VISITING ANITA'S PHOTOBLOG!***** I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography. If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know! A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

GJC from Kyoto, JapanThe composition is excellent. The lateral movement of the leaves really makes this a special shot. 12 Aug 2008 7:13am Eric Fry from Houston, TX, United StatesGreat composition and colors, Anita! I don't think that's a beautyberry, though, it's much prettier than the ones that grow around here. Only the berries have any sort of display on them, and they grow on a spike rather than at the ends of branches, with a small, dull white flower. The leaves also have a fuzzy texture. I think that this plant makes a better photographic subject, though. Well done! 12 Aug 2008 9:50am @Eric Fry: Eric: Thanks for your positive comment! Re. ID of the plant. I did some on-line research on beautyberries. I'm pretty sure this is a beautyberry, as it has the berries as you describe them in the fall. These flowers are quite small. The leaves feel a bit rough on the back side. There is a Japanese Beautyberry that has white flowers, instead of the lavender ones. Perhaps that is what you have seen. I do appreciate your raising the ID question as I could be wrong. Let's see what others say. Chris from South Jersey, United StatesWonderful composition, with the color at the right and that leaf stretching to the left. Beautiful shot...... 12 Aug 2008 11:11am Monte Stevens from Fort Collins, United StatesI have no idea what it is except a beautiful flower. :) Lovely shot and well presented, again! 12 Aug 2008 2:16pm @Monte Stevens: Thanks, Monte. I just looked at all the photos on your blog that I hadn't seen. You are doing some good work! Joyce Shaffer from Kennett Square, PA, United StatesI'm one of many who just loves photos of growing things - especially wild flowers of the West. Your work is simply gorgeous. Do you have any interest in photographing Big Trees? A group of Quakers is starting an effort to photo Big Trees in the s.e. PA and surrounding area for display in our Meeting House. We have a William Penn oak on the property. 12 Aug 2008 4:09pm @Joyce Shaffer: Joyce: I am interested. I'm a Quaker also. I will try to get in touch with you somehow. Marcie from United StatesLove the colors..and the dof. The yellow things (excuse my ignorance - I don't know their names) glow!!! 12 Aug 2008 4:41pm @Betty: Thanks, Betty.
