Nodding Thistle (Carduus nutans)

Also called Musk Thistle. Non-native. Pennsylvania, USA, considers it a noxious weed. Grows in our meadow, but we cut them down before they go to seed so they won't spread. Too bad, as they are lovely!

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

A beautiful and colorful thistle. Certainly, it is weeds, but it can be beautiful for it. We have similar plants with us, too.

We have to be very careful with some invasive species. Out of their native habitat they may proliferate uncontrollably.

Great flower macros over the past few days, Anita, but I really like this one. We have purple thistle here, but they don't make these incredible tendrils like this one. Thanks for posting these!
