This prickly week grows along roadsides and fence lines. It is an alien plant. The dry flower heads are marvelous in winter floral arrangements.
I took this photo against the sunset.

A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Amazing capture and use of light revealing the details of this beautiful plant. The colors and DOF give an exceptional feel tot he image. Interesting how something we could easily overlook on a roadside or field can become something so beautiful. Like Chris said, "you took a weed and made it into a work of art" Nice find Anita.
