Cattails Before SunrisePosted by Anita (West Nottingham, United States) on 15 January 2008 in Plant & Nature. These cattails grew at the edge of a human-made pond in the mountains of northern Virginia, USA, where I spent the weekend. *****THANK YOU FOR VISITING ANITA'S PHOTOBLOG!***** I welcome your honest critique, especially if they will improve my photography. If I have made a mistake in a flower identification, please let me know! A few words about the EXIF data, beginning in April when I began using Nikon D300 and the Sigma 105mm macro: My new camera and macro lens record the relative or effective f stop, not the one seen on the lens. For an explanation of this, go to the next to the last question at this site.

Chris from South Jersey, United StatesGreat colors and the silhouette of the cat tails is beautiful. The only thing for me that is a little distracting is the light post in the background. I wonder if you could have cropped the image to only show the reflections and so leave that out. 15 Jan 2008 1:35pm @Chris: Chris: Your comment is extremely helpful. Thanks! I cloned out the street light. I agree, it was really distracting. What do you do you think of the current photo? I tried cropping, but didn't like it as much. Paul Michko from Exton, PA, United StatesI love the sky colors reflected in the water and the near silhouetted cattails. Very well done. 15 Jan 2008 6:11pm Chris from South Jersey, United StatesI like the image a lot better with the light post cloned out (although it is visible in the reflection!). It is a very peaceful image 15 Jan 2008 11:32pm @Chris: Clearly not my day. The reflection is now cloned. :-) Chris from South Jersey, United StatesI am sorry to put you through all that! I know I may see things that other people don't and that others will see things that I don't in my own photos - hopefully we all get a little better at doing this!! 16 Jan 2008 2:39am @Chris: No apologies needed. You improved my image. GJC from Kyoto, JapanA wonderful composition. I like the mixture of fore- and background elements and the overall blue hue that holds it together. Lovely. 16 Jan 2008 6:59am @GJC: Thank you! Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaLove this. Delicate and gorgeous color with a tranquil mood. 16 Jan 2008 8:14am @Michael Skorulski: Thanks. It was a tranquil morning. @Kerri: I'm glad you like it. :-) Aayawa from Edinburgh, United KingdomNice one. When I opned it up only the top half appeared on screen and to my mind made a better picture. 19 Jan 2008 8:22pm Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesI think this photo suffers from two centers of interest, so the eye doesn't know where to settle. 20 Jan 2008 1:10pm David from Bryn Mawr, United StatesSorry to have missed the excitement over the pole. I see your point about the competing centers of attention. But, this photo conveyed a powerful sense of tranquility that transcends those compositional issues. 20 Jan 2008 10:26pm @David: Thank you, David. |
